Organic colouration

This research project is intended as an educational resource showcasing organic alternatives to harmful chemical dyes and micro plastic sequins used by the textile industry. The body of experimental sampling and material experiments demonstrate how natural dyes and bioplastics can be created using waste fruit and vegetables from the commercial sector to propose more sustainable alternatives for the fashion and textile industry.

Inspired by seasonal harvests and guided by trend direction, the two colour palettes aimed at both Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter seasons consist of natural colours sourced solely from local fruits, vegetables and plants. Material sampling showcases the use of natural colours, bioplastic sequins, and traditional Shibori and embroidery techniques to demonstrate the aesthetic potential of the experiments.
