Organic Innovation
During the summer I studied natural dyeing techniques, collected dyestuff from my local area and dyed natural silk and cotton a variety of shades.
I began investigating if natural dyes could make a comeback in our fast fashion industry as an alternative to toxic chemical dyes. Alongside the negative impacts of chemical dyes, plastic is also a huge polluter, regardless of this sequins are still mass produced and sewn onto garments. The tiny micro plastics can harm both human and wildlife. I decided to create my own organic sequins, creating embellishments from waste vegetable skins such as onions, it was an interesting project but I did have to solve the issue of my work slowly growing mould.
